Coast Guard repatriates 110 Haitians on boat in the Caribbean

Much more than 100 Haitians who were attempting to depart the counrty aboard an overloaded 40-foot boat were being apprehended at sea and repatriated Tuesday by the U.S. Coast Guard.

In accordance to the 7th District Southeast in Miami, the Coast Guard Cutter Resolute crew repatriated 110 Haitian migrants who have been crammed aboard a wooden vessel painted blue with the words and phrases “Laewa Esperyans” (Laewa experience”) and “Ann Wiv Ansanm” (let’s dwell alongside one another) painted in pink and yellow on its facet.

The team, donning pink and yellow lifestyle preserver jackets, were being stopped about 50 miles north of Cap-Haitien, Haiti, following a Coastline Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew spotted them in the h2o. Resolute’s crew diverted and brought the people today aboard “out of abundance of caution for safety of daily life at sea,” the Coast Guard explained.

“I could not be prouder of the crew for safely interdicting and deterring migrant ventures by means of coordinated attempts to enforce U.S and partner country treaties and laws,” Cmdr. Justin Vanden Heuvel, commander, Coastline Guard Cutter Resolute, stated in a statement. “Resolute’s crew was excellent in guaranteeing safety of existence at sea, as nicely as giving all over-the-clock care for 110 attendees and building an environment of compassion and dignity prior to repatriation.”
