Coast Guard stops overloaded boat with Haitians off Bahamas

For the 2nd time in a 7 days, the U.S. Coast Guard on Friday stopped an overloaded sailboat packed with people migrating from Haiti.

This time, the vessel was stopped about 10 miles off Anguilla Cay, a Bahamian island just north of Cuba. The Coastline Guard claimed 123 individuals were being on board. The specific dimensions of the boat was not quickly recognized, but judging by footage released by the Coast Guard, the variety of men and women on board far exceeded the vessel’s ability.

The interdiction comes 6 days right after the Coast Guard stopped a sailboat with 179 persons from Haiti 30 miles off Andros Island, also in the Bahamas.

The federal governing administration tracks maritime migration by the fiscal calendar year, commencing and ending Oct. 1.
